According to the Coffee and Cocoa Association of Vietnam (VICOFA), due to the global economic downturn, the coffee processing plant and consumers worldwide have turned to the use of Robusta coffee. This creates favorable conditions for Vietnam because Vietnam is a country Robusta coffee producing world leading.

Besides, the coffee growing countries such as Brazil and Colombia are faced with the weather conditions are not favorable, negative impact on coffee production.

In the first 7 months of 2012, the price difference to the Robusta coffee exporters Vietnam and other countries narrow the range from 250-300 USD / ton, dropped to 30-50 USD / ton.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), coffee production in Vietnam increased rapidly since 1996 and to date, coffee become agricultural commodities exported the second largest land water.

Vietnam Coffee is currently available to over 80 countries and territories. Vietnam has advantages in coffee export volumes and prices cheaper than coffee from other countries. Currently, coffee prices in Vietnam increased from 38,000 dong / kg (19 USD) to 43,500 cases in the east / kg (20 USD).

Data from VICOFA showed that, in the last 3 years, the volume of Arabica coffee exports increased dramatically, from 24,000 tons in 2009 to 50,000 tonnes in 2011. Export prices have doubled from $ 2,313 / ton in 2009 to $ 4,261 / ton in 2011. The difference between the export price of Robusta and Arabica are increasingly expanded. In 2011, the price of Arabica coffee exports reached $ 4,261 / tonne compared with $ 2,099 in / tonnes of Robusta coffee.

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam set a target to plant 40,000 hectares of arabica coffee in 2020, accounting for 8% of the total coffee growing area of Vietnam. According VICOFA, Vietnam now has more than 120,000 hectares of barren ground coffee, coffee output will fall 15% coming from many farms to replant coffee trees.

Vietnam plan into the overall coffee production to increase to 2020 and vision to 2030. Accordingly, the total area planted to coffee remained at 500,000 hectares in 2020, with output increasing by 2.4 tonnes / ha and 479,000 ha with an output of 2.5 tons / ha in 2030. By end of 2011, Vietnam has 571,000 hectares of land with coffee, with the capacity of reaching from 120,000 to 130,000 tons / year.

Now, m the producers and exporters of coffee in the country are focusing on diversifying export products and at the same time meet the needs of domestic consumption. The biggest difficulty for growers is the ability to access low-interest loans.

On the world market, coffee processing products of Vietnam faced many difficulties when entering the developed markets, so Vietnam mainly exports coffee beans with low price.
